Why Help?
Your Helping Hand Will Make a Better World.

Sankoré Institute, though young as an organization is singular in its commitment to simultaneously improve the current social condition of African and African American communities and the quality and quantity of STEM participation in these communities. While many universities, K-12 school districts, and community agencies have programs aimed at increasing African American students’ interest in, knowledge of, or experiences with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), few seek to move beyond STEM content alone. By dealing meaningfully with the social needs of Africans and African Americans of all ages Sankoré Institute is able to make STEM content more relevant to our constituent’s lives.

In just under five years Sankoré Institute has worked with hundreds of African American young men in rights-of-passage and mentoring initiatives. We have received funding from the Civic Innovation Lab, the National Science Foundation and scores of individuals and organizations. We have built a supporting network of nearly 1500 subscribers. In the past five years our staff has conducted research and produced several manuscripts on STEM topics that are important to people of African descent. At this rate the work of Sankoré Institute is certain to have a tremendous impact on African and African American communities.

Your gift (whether time, money, service, or products) contributes substantially to the further realization of greater educational excellence, social progress, and STEM participation among African people.

Many challenges lie ahead. We are working to encourage greater numbers of African and African American youth to value STEM careers as much as many entertainment careers. We are working to help churches, schools and community organizations to establish organizations where young men of African descent can develop skills and become assets to African communities. We are working to establish relationships between STEM professionals and young aspiring STEM practitioners. We are working to build relationships with organizations based in Africa that are guided by missions similar to Sankoré Institute.

Although these are big challenges, we know the payoff is worth the effort. The impact we make today will shape the world we share tomorrow. Your helping hand will make a better world.
