Vision
Sankoré Institute is a world leader in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Institute is unique in its dedication to empowering African and African American communities, by growing intellectual infrastructure in these areas.
Mission
The mission of Sankoré Institute is to grow the intellectual infrastructure in African and African American communities focusing specifically on disciplines in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This mission is accomplished in three Institute activities: research and development, education, and application and policy.
History
Sankoré Institute was incorporated in the State of Maryland as a tax exempt corporation in April 2003; received acknowledgement by the Internal Revenue Service as a section 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization in November 2003; and began its first Institute sponsored initiative with partial funding from the National Science Foundation in March 2004. As a start-up organization the Sankoré Institute Board of Trustees has committed to a five-year plan aimed at steady growth.
Sankoré Initiatives
Sankoré Institute works to accomplish its mission in two ways. First, the Institute conducts outreach activities in collaboration with corporations, churches, universities, k-12 schools and other non-profit organizations. These outreach efforts, while broad in their scope, are jointly-conducted, episodic projects that enable Sankoré Institute and partnering organizations to move towards mutually beneficial goals. Second, the Institute conducts programs that are permanent features of Sankoré Institute. In both instances, outreach efforts and programs, all Institute activities move in the direction of growing STEM intellectual infrastructure in African and African American communities.
Sankoré Vanguard
